Our Story: Brewing Community

It all began with a shared passion and six friends: Ashwin, Anivesh, Kunal, Lionel, Newton, and Nikhil. What brought us together? A curiosity and a love for exploring the diverse world of coffee, seeking out specialty coffee from different origins across the globe.

Our journey involved countless cups, late-night discussions, and eventually, a desire to bring more of these incredible international coffees home. We decided to place a significant order with a roaster based in the United States, eagerly anticipating the arrival of exceptional beans.

However, when the package arrived, we were met with an unexpected surprise – substantial customs charges that made the coffee far less accessible than we had hoped. This hurdle wasn't a dead end; it was a catalyst.

Around this time, we discovered Coffeevine, a platform that curates outstanding roasters from European and Global Roasters. Seeing an opportunity to solve the accessibility problem not just for us, but for fellow coffee enthusiasts across India, we decided to collaborate. And so, Mumbai Coffee Collective was born – founded on the idea of making exceptional international coffees readily available to everyone in India.

But our vision extended beyond just sourcing beans. We wanted to build a community. We started hosting free coffee cupping and brewing sessions at various specialty cafes throughout Mumbai. This not only allowed us to share our passion and knowledge but also provided valuable visibility for the wonderful cafes that welcomed us.

After about two years of community building and fostering connections, we took the next step. We began reaching out directly to international roasters that we wanted to get coffees from, establishing relationships and becoming retail partners for some truly amazing coffee roasters around the world.

Today, Mumbai Coffee Collective continues to serve the Indian coffee community. We proudly continue our collaboration with Coffeevine, bringing curated global selections to your doorstep. We also work directly with incredible roasters and keep the community spirit alive through our regular monthly meetups and events. Our mission remains the same: to explore, share, and make the world of specialty coffee accessible to all.
